The American Red Cross Connecticut Chapter is helping 11 people – six adults and five children – in four families after a fire on Connecticut Avenue in Bridgeport.  The Red Cross is providing temporary lodging, as well as financial assistance for emergency food and clothing needs.

The Red Cross also provided comfort kits to each person.  Comfort Kits contain personal care and hygiene items individuals might need after being displaced.  Items include a toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving needs and sanitary items.  The kits are gender specific and age specific as well, with children’s kits including diapers and stuffed toys or coloring books and crayons.  The kits are donated by Clean Sweep Restoration Services of New England.  Children of Clean Sweep employees assemble the kits, which are delivered to the Red Cross as needed.

American Red Cross disaster assistance is free of charge, a gift made possible by generous donations and the work of volunteers.
